Discover our most beautiful via-ferrata in Occitanie! This region is full of natural wonders. Time has sculpted the limestone into fantastic playgrounds and places to contemplate. Here’s a look at two gems in the heart of Hérault:
The Vidourle via-ferrata(St Sériés) and the Thaurac via-ferrata(St Beauzille de Putois).
Who can help you discover the Via-ferrata in Occitania?
To discover Via-ferrata in the Hérault region, we advise you to work with a state-qualified instructor.
The via-ferrata is not a very complicated activity. However, this activity can be relatively risky if not carried out in good weather conditions or with the right equipment. If you’re new to Via-ferrata in the Occitanie region, we advise you to take the first steps with an instructor. He or she will be familiar with the weather conditions, the escape routes, the sections that can or cannot be climbed depending on the clientele, and the little “fun” bonuses (e.g. pendulum jump). Specific via-ferrata safety equipment will be provided: helmets and harnesses fitted with shock-absorbing lanyards .
Via-ferrata du Thaurac located in St Beauzille de Putois.
Only 30 minutes from Montpellier, this route offers a host of possibilities. Overlooking the village of St Beauzille de Putois, you can contemplate the Hérault river from the top of the via-ferrata. The views are breathtaking, making this Via-ferrata’s main feature. It’s an aerial course equipped with monkey bridges, Nepalese bridges and a Tyrolean traverse.

Both above and below ground …
In addition to aerial passages, you’ll pass through vertical limestone chimneys. You’ll get close to the sensations of caving. You’ll need a headlamp to enjoy all parts of the Via in complete safety.
The surprise of the pendulum jump…
A pendular jump is possible and optional at the end of the route. For thrill-seekers, this pendulum jump is a jewel equivalent to the Russian Mountains. You’ll then abseil down to the bottom of the Beaume du Soleil. You’ll then abseil down to the bottom of the Beaume du Soleil, a large cave which you’ll climb up to reach the light. In summer, the temperature in this cave is a real treat.

The Vidourle via-ferrata on the Gard-Hérault border
Also just 35 minutes from Montpellier via the A9 freeway, this Via is a haven of peace. Situated in the Hérault department, it taunts the Gard, just across the Vidourle river, which flows into the sea at Grau du Roi. Two routes are available. One accessible to all, and a second more difficult route requiring good leg/arm coordination. The fact that you’re always above the water is reassuringly calm and serene. There’s a magnificent zip line over the water and an aerial monkey bridge at the top of the Via. Once at the top, you can enjoy a magical panoramic view of the surrounding villages. Sommières, La roque d’Aubais (rock-climbing school), Pic St Loup and the Cévennes.
