Via-Ferrata du Thaurac
It’s a compendium of everything you’d expect to find on a well-equipped Via-Ferrata du Thaurac.
Via-Ferrata du Thaurac: aerial routes to the summit!
Our playground is located in the Thaurac limestone near the village of Saint-Bauzille-de-Putois.
The via ferrata overlooks the grotte des Demoiselles and the Hérault, our river well known in the region where we practice canyoning, meanders below.
The Hérault is a coastal river that rises at Mont Aigoual in the Cévennes. 147km long, it flows through the Causse de la Selle, forming the Hérault gorges and the Devil’s Canyon at Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert. It then flows into the Mediterranean Sea at Grau d’Agde.

Description
The Thaurac via-ferrata is unique for its Arian character. Different routes, more or less aerial depending on your desires and conditions, will then take you to the second part of the via: the beaume du tigre with a pretty passage over a monkey bridge.
It’s in the Beaume du Soleil that a major surprise awaits you before abseiling back down into the cave: the impressive pendulum jump! A sort of gigantic swing where you launch yourself 30m from the ground for a 30m pendulum.
The cave is almost completely dark, except around 1pm, when a ray of sunlight illuminates the cave, hence its name: la beaume du soleil. A pendulum is not compulsory. The ascent is made in the dark using a headlamp. It’s a via-souterrata to the surface.
From there, it’s a 20-minute walk to the cars..
Situated on the border between the Gard and Hérault departments, the Vidourle river acts as a divider. This is the Roque de Saint-Sériès...
