Come and discover the via-ferrata du Thaurac in the Hérault gorges. It’s the ideal way to discover the area with family, friends or a group, whether you’re planning a hen party (EVJF) or a stag party (EVG). Here’s an overview of the different workshops and the splendid views you’ll encounter on this aerial tour!

Where is the Via-ferrata du Thaurac located in the Hérault gorges?

This via-ferrata is located in the heart of the gorges in the commune of St Bauzille de Putois.

After cutting through the Causse de la Selle, the Hérault river rises at Mont Aigoual to form the Hérault gorges. This has been the case for millions of years. The limestone of this via-ferrata dates from the Jurassic period. It’s a popular spot for birds, climbers, high-line tightrope walkers and Via enthusiasts.

The via overlooks the village and the Hérault river, which can be seen meandering peacefully from the top. The summit rises to 420 m.

There are three distinct parts to this route. A section known as “les deux cheminées” (the two chimneys) where, as the name suggests, we pass through natural chimneys. These are ancient underground rivers that have carved out the limestone for our greatest pleasure to this day. Naturéo will provide you with all the necessary safety equipment and a headlamp to help you find your way through these dark passages!

Between these two chimneys, you’ll also have the pleasure of flying on the 30 m zip line 60 m above the ground!

The second part is an aerial climb to the very top of the via-ferrata! There’s also a Himalayan bridge where the more experienced can try their hand at going hands-off!

The third part is located in the “beaume du soleil” (sunshine grotto), which can be considered an end-of-course bonus. It’s called “beaume du soleil” because at a certain time of day, the sun enters this cave, illuminating almost all of it. The rest of the time, it’s completely dark! So this part of the tour is not compulsory, but it’s one hell of a thrill! Imagine a swing with a giant 30 m pendulum in a huge 70 m high cave !
