The Saint Sériès via ferrata: Two routes for even more thrills!

This via ferrata is relatively short in distance, but can be challenging depending on the route you choose. Indeed, after a common start just a few meters from the water, you’ll have two possible itineraries depending on your general fitness. The first is a 25 m zip line leading to a 20 m vertical wall. On this fairly easy passage, if you’re game, you can make the most of the natural holds on the rock. The aim is to make it look like pure climbing. It’s an exciting and fun way to test your first climbing sensations. Of course, you’ll always have the rungs and lifeline in place to make climbing easier and safer.

The overhanging physical passage of the Vidourle via-ferrata :

For the more adventurous or those looking for a little challenge, the overhanging black arrowed passage is sensational.

This physical passage is located right in the middle of the Vidourle rock face, just above the water. It’s an impressive sight from below. If you let go of the rungs, your body will be suspended in the void. It will be held in place only by the strength of your hands. To complete this passage properly, you need the right body technique. First and foremost, you need to set the pace and be efficient enough to change the karabiners on your lifeline.

The method…

The best way to get over the slope without tiring too much is to keep your feet as close to the cliff as possible. Remember to coordinate the thrust of the legs and the rise of the arms. This requires a minimum of sheathing to keep the buttocks close to the wall and avoid being pulled down by gravity. An inescapable phenomenon. Once you’ve completed this overhanging section, you’ll be left with around 15 m of vertical wall. This slightly overhanging wall requires concentration and energy right to the end. Once up there, you’ll be able to breathe again, contemplating the view over the Vidourle river. It’s a magical moment when you can admire the life and wildlife around you. Many species of birds can be found on this colorful piece of limestone above the water.

To finish the Saint Sériès via-ferrata in style, a superb monkey bridge awaits you for the final aerial thrills! If you pay close attention, you’ll be able to read the following sentence at the end of the monkey bridge : “Whatever the path, enjoy the ride”. It’s a phrase that everyone can interpret according to their own feelings. Having grown up in the area, this phrase has accompanied me many times in my life. It’s always a pleasure to read it again each time I supervise this formidable via-ferrata.
