La Roque d’Aubais: natural bouldering in a friendly, explosive atmosphere!

The Roque d’Aubais is just opposite the Roque de Saint-Sériès, where our via-ferrata du Vidourle is located. The two Roques are separated by the Vidourle, a river notorious in the area for overflowing its banks during periods of heavy rainfall. The river forms the border between the departments of Hérault (Saint-Sériès) and Gard (Aubais).

This climbing site is a very bucolic place! As we climb here, we overlook the Vidourle river below. At the top of the routes, we can see our famous Pic Saint-Loup on the horizon, which takes on a magnificent orange hue at sunset.

DISCOVERY // INITATION

Description

The cliff faces south, with limestone rock. The routes are short, with a boulder profile for the most difficult. There are around twenty routes of no more than 8m. It’s an ideal place to take your first steps in sport climbing, with the added bonus of the area’s magical charm. The area is renowned for its grotto. In this cave you can also try your hand at natural bouldering. This discipline, which is practiced without ropes, does not exceed 3m in height, but remains safe thanks to a crash pad.

There are a number of overhanging passages, as well as traverses. These are excellent ways of performing moves 30cm off the ground, enabling you to acquire a rich and varied repertoire of movements that will serve you well in the future. Difficulty levels range from 4a to 6b+.

Naturéo’s favorites on this site are: the natural boulders in the cave up to 7b boulder, diplodocus foot (6a), envie d’aile (6a+) and the descent to hell via the north face (6b+).
