Discover canyoning in St Guilhem le Désert, one of France’s most beautiful villages.
Canyoning at St Guilhem le Désert (canyon du diable ) for whom and when?
Canyoning in St Guilhem le Désert takes place on the Hérault river. This river rises at Mont Aigoual in the Cévennes. It flows into the Mediterranean Sea at Grau d’Agde. Over its 147.6 km course, the river has cut through the Hérault gorges in the Causse de la Selle for millions of years.
For which audience?
It’s a canyon accessible to all, which is what makes it so special and attractive. It’s suitable for everyone, from thrill-seeking sports enthusiasts to contemplative canyoning enthusiasts. It’s an ideal canyon for families and friends, for bachelor or bachelorette parties parties. Le canyon du diable is open to everyone aged 7 and over. All you need is the ability to swim. With the passage of water over time, the limestone gorges offer opportunities to climb up to 15 m high.
Jumps, abseiling, zip lines and white-water swimming…
You can also try your hand at abseiling. Many jumps are possible, up to 10 m for the most experienced. It’s possible to enjoy this wonderful place without taking part in the jumps and other vertical surprises. Just let yourself float, carried along by the current, and you’ll be able to avoid the obstacles. There are two equipped canyoning sections, each with its own special features. In both sections, you’ll find whitewater swimming with a good flow of water. There are also zip lines, jumps and rope descents!

When can you enjoy canyoning in St Guilhem le Désert?
The canyon du Diable is a summer canyon. It opens at the beginning of July, depending on the water flow. The Hérault river has a large watershed and collects all the rainwater from the spring. As a result, the canyon is often open from early July until late summer. We’re lucky enough to have water all season long, which makes it our flagship canyon.

All our Naturéo Sport Aventure canyoning trips include the loan of equipment. We equip you with a neoprene wetsuit, a harness and a helmet. We’ll also lend you a waterproof canteen bag. Don’t forget to bring your own sneakers with non-smooth soles (for better ankle protection).
